While a far-flung adventure to somewhere exotic might be appealing, you will find that a UK staycation can offer just as much natural beauty, adventure and luxury when you know where to go (in addition to being much more affordable!).
However, picking a staycation can be tough, especially since there are a lot of options out there. This is why the team decided that putting together some UK staycation ideas would be a great thing for our UK community to get them started on their next holiday.

What is a staycation?
A staycation is a form of domestic tourism, which means travelling, but never leaving your country or general locale. It involves undertaking tourist-based activities that are located not too far from home, which can mean a quick trip in the car, maybe even a short hotel stay just down the road or a domestic flight to visit the other side of the country.
It is a very broad term because you could be attending an event or visiting a local nature spot. There could be a museum or a theme park in your area. Perhaps it’s a spa that takes your interest or a countryside walk.
But the point of a staycation is that you are staying in your general area. You don’t need to dust off your passport, book an expensive flight, or go through the trouble of getting a visa.
So, whether you are setting off on a romantic trip with your partner, a staycation with the family or even a solo escape, here are a few ideas to get you started.
Suffolk
The beautiful county of Suffolk in East England is somewhere that many people find to be surprising because of how much it has to offer. Here you will find incredible natural beauty, including some of the best beaches in the UK and incredible walking opportunities in country parks and woodland spaces.
There are also a handful of attractions worth checking out, including Oasis Camel Park and the Africa Alive Zoological Reserve for animal lovers.
Derbyshire
Derbyshire is home to much of the Peak District, which is somewhere with postcard-esque English countryside and a great choice for those that like to get out and walk and/or cycle. Derbyshire is somewhere ideal for holidays in static caravans that would allow you to connect with nature and escape daily life.
Devon
Devon is a good choice for a staycation as it is a great place for adventure as well as some R&R. It is known for its dramatic, unspoilt coast along with its sandy beaches and hilly landscapes. Brixham’s beaches and nature reserve are highlights in Devon along with charming towns like Clovelly, Dartmouth and Woolacombe.
Cornwall
Heading further southwest is Cornwall and this is a destination that appeals to many, especially during the warmer months of the year. Those seeking a sun, sea and sand holiday need look no further as Cornwall is famous for its sandy beaches which are ideal for water sports, coastal walks or simply chilling on the beach and soaking up the sand.
There are many highlights throughout the country, including Newquay as a cool, laid-back surfer town with charming shops, pubs and restaurants in addition to the beaches.
Scotland
Heading up North to Scotland is another good option and ideal for those seeking dramatic natural beauty along with historic and cultural towns. Up on the northeast coast of Scotland, you will find Lossiemouth in Moray, which is dubbed “the Riviera of the North” with 2 breathtaking beaches that flank the harbour. Of course, Edinburgh and Glasgow are must-visits and each with its own distinct character and attractions.
Hopefully, this post will give you some food for thought and give you a few ideas for places for a staycation. The UK has many amazing places to visit for every type of vacation and the above are just a few of the best options worth considering.
