Why choose Western Australia for your next trip
Western Australia is incredibly vast and diverse; as the largest state, it covers nearly one-third of the country. That’s 2.6 million square kilometres of arid desert, untamed bushland and lush tropics.
Be amazed by the rock formations and ancient Aboriginal sites and in awe of the sweeping green vineyards of world-class wineries and unbelievably clear ocean waters. It is true that Western Australia is the land of endless exploration. This sometimes forgotten state offers more than enough to fill not one, but several holidays.
Here are some of the suggestions for you to take your Instagram game to the next level.
Jewel Cave, Margaret River
A truly magical sight to behold, Jewel Cave is the largest show cave in Western Australia. It’s also one of the most decorated caves, filled with thousands of years old rock formations including helictites, stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, fossils, cave coral and more. It’s home to one of the largest stalagmites in the country, and an incredible underground network of steps and climbs to explore every inch.
The cave is in Deepdene, 10 minutes northwest of Augusta or a quick 30-minute drive south of Margaret River.
Twilight Beach, Esperance
For some of the great southern’s whitest sand and clearest blue waters, it’s hard to go past Twilight Bay. The beaches of Esperance are rated among the best in the world – and Twilight Bay is one of the town’s most loved. Here, impossibly white sand meets unbelievably clear turquoise water creating a beautiful vista and perfect swimming conditions. A popular picnic spot, the rugged granite outcrops just off the beach make for beautiful photographs.
Kalbarri Skywalk & Nature’s Window
Kalbarri is truly an adventurer’s paradise, offering stunning hikes through inland gorges, abseiling, surfing, snorkelling, fishing, kayaking, scenic flights and so much more. Sadly, in 2020, Cyclone Seroja devastated the town of Kalbarri and surroundings, but the town has since rebuilt, and excitingly, has opened a ‘Skywalk’ in Kalbarri National Park – twin skywalks project 25m and 17m beyond the gorge rim and sit more than 100m above the Murchison River. Another must-do is, arguably one of Western Australia’s most iconic natural attractions – Nature’s Window.
Walk down a picturesque trail to view the rock formation that perfectly frames the rugged upstream view of the Murchison River.
Purnululu National Park, The Kimberly
The Bungle Bungle Range in Purnululu National Park is one of the most striking geological landmarks in Western Australia. Purnululu, meaning ‘sandstone’, has long been inhabited by local Aboriginal people but did not become widely known to the rest of the world until the mid-1980s. The beehive domes structures found in the southern end of the park are the most exceptional examples of cone karst formations in the world – one of the reasons why the national park was World Heritage listed in 2003.

Wave Rock, Hyden
Going through Hyden will reveal one of the world’s most impressive rock formations, Wave Rock, an imposing, 2700 million-year-old multi-colour granite cliff that stretches 110m long and 15m high. It’s also a historic area for indigenous Australians, who’ve inhabited the region for hundreds of years, with several ancient rock-painting sites in nearby Mulka’s Cave.
