Let’s face it—the market is supersaturated with action cameras that often prioritize durability over image quality. That’s why we feel that the DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro steps in as a breath of fresh air. Targeted at adventure-seekers more than anyone else who demands more from their footage, DJI’s latest release raises the bar with its sophisticated sensor technology, robust battery life, and versatile mounting system. Equipped with an impressive range of features, the Action 5 Pro is designed to handle both everyday escapades and high-stakes shoots.

To test the OSMO, we filmed two differently styles. One was a interview and slow motion format with our team walking down a pathway and talking into the camera. The second was a more fast-paced video focused on capturing motion and an action-packed style. No surprise, the latter was definitely better and we felt it captured the feeling of motion really well. It didn’t really impress when it came to filming more stable shots of us seated down or slow walking, talking into the camera. However, to be fair it isn’t really meant for that style, so we based our review on the more action-based experience.
Design and build
The DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro sports a compact, rugged design with a body that feels sturdy and comfortable. Its lightweight and compact form factor is complemented by a magnetic mounting system, making it ideal for adventurous shoots. DJI has improved the screen quality, incorporating brighter OLED displays on both the front and rear. These enhancements mean it performs better even under strong sunlight, making it easier to frame shots regardless of the environment.
Battery life and performance
One of the standout features of the DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro is its battery life, lasting significantly longer than many competing models. It can continuously record in 4K at 60fps for over two hours—a huge plus for those on extended shoots. The device’s efficient battery performance means that users are less likely to run out of power in critical moments, which can be essential for capturing spontaneous action.
Image quality and sensor
The OSMO Action 5 Pro houses a new 1/1.3-inch sensor with 40 megapixels, a substantial upgrade that allows for sharper and brighter footage, particularly in low light. DJI claims it captures up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range, delivering impressive detail retention even in challenging lighting. This is especially evident in lower-light settings, where it manages to produce clear, vibrant footage compared to competitors, which often struggle in similar conditions.
Colour and dynamic range
While the camera excels in dynamic range, its default colour rendering may not be universally appealing. Some users may find the colours a bit saturated, lending the footage an HDR-like appearance. Fortunately, the OSMO Action 5 Pro supports a variety of colour profiles, including a D-Log mode, which allows for more flexible colour grading during post-production. Many users may find that using D-Log and adjusting colours manually can yield better results, especially if they prefer a more natural look.
Stabilization and low-light performance
The DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro excels in stabilization, especially during high-motion activities like biking or skiing. Its built-in RockSteady stabilization technology minimizes shakiness, offering smooth footage even in rough terrain. In low light, it surpasses many competitors, maintaining detail and reducing noise without compromising clarity. This makes it a strong choice for users looking to film under a variety of lighting conditions.
Audio capabilities
Audio quality is an essential consideration for action cameras, and the OSMO Action 5 Pro doesn’t disappoint. We paired it with a DJI mic, so it was pretty seamless and definitely picked up everything we needed. This integration is useful for those looking to capture not just high-quality visuals but also clear audio, whether they are vlogging or documenting on-the-go experiences.

Usability and interface
The interface of the OSMO Action 5 Pro is straightforward and intuitive. DJI has refined the user experience, making it easier to switch between modes, adjust settings, and review footage. Its touch responsiveness is smooth, and the controls feel well-placed, allowing users to make adjustments quickly.
Final thoughts on the DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro
The OSMO Action 5 Pro stands out as a strong competitor in the action camera market, particularly for its long battery life, impressive low-light capabilities, and superior stabilization. While its default colour rendering may not suit every taste, the flexibility it offers with colour profiles provides ample room for customization.
If we look at how it comes to the newer GoPro models, it does compare well, though to an untrained or new user, there’s not that much to distingush. However, we did enjoy our experience with it and it is simple to pick up, even without reading through the user guide. So, we can confidently recommend this and make sure to get it if you’re planning to filming some high octane experiences when you travel.
